About the committee

With 5 Permanent Members wielding veto power and another 10 non-permanent member states, the UNSC represents a portion of 193 UN member states. The UNSC has been entrusted with the sacred responsibility of maintaining global peace and security and is the only body in the UN to enact legally binding resolutions. Despite being able to take actions such as sanctions and military intervention, the UNSC has been criticized by many as inefficient and ineffective given certain reasons.

Having 195 Members and 12 Associate Members, UNESCO has always been focused on its mission of achieving the building of peace, poverty eradication, sustainable development and intercultural dialogue through education, the sciences, culture, communication and information since its founding days. Till date, there are 1157 World Heritage Sites located across 167 countries, and UNESCO in many ways, have benefitted multiple groups in society

The European Council, defining the overall political direction and priorities of the European Union, is made up of the heads of state or government of EU member states, but does not hold any legislative power. With meetings held twice every six months, the European Council continuously provides the European Union with general political directions and priorities. The European Council also serves as a force to bring EU leaders together to set the EU’s political agenda, obviously being the highest level of political cooperation between EU nations.

As mandated by the Constitution, the Senate is composed of two Senators from each state, thus having 100 members. The Senate, being the upper chamber of the United States Congress, takes action on bills, resolutions, amendments, motions, nominations and treaties by voting. However, the Senate has been criticized on policy gridlock and its general usefulness as an institution, resulting in the doubting of the ability if Senate to provide every American citizen with an equal voice.

Founded in 1948, the WHO is a specialized branch of the UN, which have been given a broad mandate of acting as the directing and coordinating authority on international health work within the United Nations system. With 194 member states, WHO has played a key role in various global health events such as the 1980 eradication of smallpox, the 2003 adoption of the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control and the most recent Covid-19 pandemic. Nonetheless, the WHO has also played as an international platform for members to convene to share expertise and discuss plans with regards to contemporary health issues.
