Manual to be a Social BEE
How to drive MUN socials without dying
Let’s be honest: we all know at least one person who overslept after a wild night at a MUN Social. And if you don’t know anyone like that, sorry to tell you, but it might be you. Personally, I’ve never been that person (thank you very much) because if there’s one thing I hate, it’s people coming to the committee session late. But don’t get misunderstood; I’m not skipping the party either. I’m that social butterfly who knows how to have fun and still show up ready to slay the following day. If you’re vibing with that or want to kill it in your socials, follow these tips to crush the MUN nightlife.
It is essential to do your research on local and conference regulations beforehand. In some conferences, the socials are divided into -18 and +18 areas. Also, remember always to bring your ID and not leave your conference badge behind. You will probably need it to get into the socials and to prove that you are part of the MUN. Additionally, stick to the conference code of conduct and don’t go overboard with the alcohol if it’s an open-bar situation - drink water always helps. If you ever feel uncomfortable or unsafe, talk to one of the organisers or someone you trust—they’ll definitely help you with any unfortunate situation.
Before the night starts, know how you are getting home before you leave the party. Take care to learn the address of your accommodation and the public transit schedule (and make a run for the last metro if needed!). Additionally, do not forget to eat before going to the social (even though we all know that the Kebab post social is the best thing in the world). Also, keep your phone fully charged; I always bring a portable battery with me.
When it comes to the music, everyone’s got a different vibe—hip hop, house, RnB, you name it. MUN socials try their best, but not every DJ will nail it for every delegate. And believe me, I’m Spanish, so I know what I’m talking about: I’ve developed serious patience at conferences where they don’t even dare to play La Gasolina or Macarena, and I’ve survived. If the playlist isn’t hitting, focus on the people and the vibes instead.
Be the Cinderella of the MUN socials: turn up, keep your energy high, and keep your vibe on point. But, just like Cinderella, remember the clock is ticking, so balance your fun with responsibility.Make sure to leave a lasting impression—the kind where everyone’s talking about the delegate who slayed the socials and still brought the heat in committee. It’s all about mastering the art of MUN nightlife—where the real diplomacy happens after hours.
