Committees

United Nations Human Rights Council- GA
EnglishDelegates over the course of this committee we will be discussing a pressing human rights issue that has plagued our time for many years. Especially recently, delegates are tasked with discussing the Improvement of Conditions for Refugees and Displaced Populations. Where are these refugees to go? Is there a certain standard of living they must adhere to? What are the facets of some basic human rights principles migrants should be treated under?
DISEC - GA
EnglishExternal military presence and influence have historically played a significant role in East Asian geopolitics. This year, the role of the ESCAP will be to address questions of Western interventionism and colonialism in the East China Sea. While acknowledging the long-running hostility and alternate sources of friction between involved countries, delegates will consider ideas including the following: diplomacy and conflict resolution in the context of long-running regional tensions, the delineation between military support and imperialist expansion, and the weight of historical obligation on contemporary politics. Meltdown in the Muppets Studio- Crisis
EnglishThe Muppets Show, once viewed as the sterling jewel of New York City, world-renowned for providing delights and laughter to all, is now facing cancellation. With thousands upon thousands of hours of television entertainment available to the average consumer, it seems the Muppets Show just has not been able to keep up the pace to retain modern audiences. As such, the Muppets Theater is on the verge of shutting down, with only a few performances left before its doors close forever. These last few performances will be instrumental to deciding the future of the Muppets Show, and those who work within it. Will delegates be able to return the show to its former glory, or perhaps secure their own individual spot in the limelight? Find out more at: https://munemory.org/muppets
Fall of Napoleon- Crisis
EnglishIn the barely twenty years since the French Revolution shook the world, France has executed her monarch, waged war with most of Europe, and come under the power of a Corsican general who declared himself the first Emperor of France. Following the Treaties of Tilsit in the summer of 1807, Napoleon Bonaparte has established France as the dominant power in Europe. Unfortunately for him, the rest of Europe chafes at his rule, and many see the writing on the wall spells doom for France. The delegates will form an advisory council consisting of generals, ministers, foreign dignitaries, and various royals gathered to advise the Emperor Napoleon through the crisis. This committee will tackle the growing threat of British warfare, a bloody guerrilla conflict in Spain, and the steady unraveling of French diplomatic relations. Ambitious delegates can find a way to seize more power in a preserved First French Empire, or achieve their goals by taking advantage of a crumbling France. The Plasticization of Bikini Bottom- Crisis
EnglishIn MEOW! delegates will have the opportunity to represent their favorite spongebob characters as they tackle a grave threat to their town: plastic. Many residents think the plastic falling to the ocean floor isn't their responsibility and are reluctant to pay to fix it, while others see this as a grave threat. Regardless, there's no denying that human plastic pollution is slowly strangling Bikini Bottom, and seemingly powerless fish will need to find a way to solve the issue. In this crisis committee, delegates will be expected to use all tools in their arsenal to solve a global plastic-pollution crisis. Find out more at: https://munemory.org/spongebob
The Italian Renaissance- Crisis
EnglishBonjourno delegates! This committee takes place in Florence during the Italian renaissance in 1450. Each delegate in committee will participate as a renowned artist, sculptor, or scientist with political influence. The Medici family, one of the most powerful banking families in Italy, has gathered delegates to their Tuscan villa under mysterious circumstances. Perhaps to commission a new work? In an era of beauty and secrets, delegates must find creative ways to harness their combined talents to change the course of Italian history. Find out more at: https://munemory.org/florence
African Union- GA
EnglishThe African Union was officially established at the Durban Summit in 2002 as a way to amend and adapt the OAU into a form to best address the objectives and challenges of a post-colonial Africa. It is currently made up of 55 member states across 5 geographic regions with a total population of over 1.4 billion people. The organization’s goals span across multiple sectors including national and continental security, internal and external trade, human rights, health, education, and industrialization. In this committee, delegates will be debating and discussing prominent impediments to Sub-Saharan African socioeconomic advancement. Africa carries a heavy burden of disease that impacts individuals and populations alike through disability, economic loss, and stigmatization. Additionally, economic and military neocolonialism have spurred corruption, abuses of human rights, and further disruption of national sovereignty.
UNEA- GA
Englishopic 1: Facilitating a Transition to a Circular Economy: Since the first UNEA in 2014, the UNEA has focused on shaping policies to address environmental challenges. However, overconsumption and poor waste management continue to harm the planet, with millions of tons of plastic entering the oceans each year. Efforts like banning single-use plastics are a start but fail to solve deeper problems like inefficient recycling systems and the high costs of sustainable alternatives. In this committee, delegates will explore ways to establish global recycling standards, improve waste management infrastructure, and address the economic challenges faced by developing countries. Topic 2: Promoting Sustainable Urban Development General Assembly Resolution 70/1, which introduced the Sustainable Development Goals, emphasizes making cities inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable. With over 70% of the global population expected to live in urban areas by 2050, cities are at the center of climate challenges such as rising temperatures and extreme weather. They must also lead efforts to adapt and mitigate these impacts. In this committee, delegates will work on solutions like integrating renewable energy into urban infrastructure, creating affordable and sustainable housing, and protecting urban ecosystems through better management of green spaces and biodiversity.
