What is NIMSA MUN?

The Nigerian Medical Students’ Association Model United Nations (NIMSA-MUN) is a premier simulation that brings together future physicians and young leaders to explore the intersection of medicine, diplomacy, and global governance. It is a dynamic platform where participants engage in realistic UN-style debates, develop policy solutions, and learn how international cooperation shapes global health and human development.

By bridging medical science and international relations, NIMSA-MUN equips participants with vital skills in negotiation, public speaking, consensus building, and critical thinking. Through this experience, delegates deepen their understanding of global health systems, equity, and diplomacy, preparing them to become advocates for peace, justice, and health for all.

The maiden edition of the NiMSA-MUN employs a hybrid format with committee sessions held online and the general assembly and closing ceremony to be held during the  NiMSA International Health and Leadership Summit in Kaduna.

    About the committee

World Health Organization (WHO) – Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Are you interested in global health, medicine, or science? The WHO Committee is perfect for you. Here, delegates tackle the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance, when bacteria, viruses, and other microbes stop responding to medicine, making infections harder to treat. You will step into the roles of health experts and country representatives, discussing policies that ensure medicines remain effective, promote responsible use of antibiotics, and improve access to essential treatments. Who should join: Beginners are welcome. If you are curious about health policy, science, or global issues, this committee is a great starting point to experience MUN for the first time.

    About the committee

United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Topic: Environmental Sustainability and Climate Action Committee Mandate Established in 1972 and headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) serves as the leading global environmental authority. It is responsible for setting the global environmental agenda, promoting the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development, and serving as an authoritative advocate for the global environment within the United Nations system. Session Overview In this session, the committee will convene to address the critical imperative of Environmental Sustainability and Climate Action. Delegates will be tasked with formulating multilateral frameworks that reconcile economic development with ecological preservation. The agenda focuses on implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, specifically addressing the "Triple Planetary Crisis" of climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution. Scope of Debate Discussions will center on the operationalization of climate adaptation strategies, the financing of green technology transfer to the Global South, and the intrinsic link between environmental integrity and public health. Delegates must navigate the complexities of international environmental law to draft resolutions that ensure a just transition toward a carbon-neutral global economy.
